Places

If someone asks you what you mean by 'local', it's often difficult to give a single answer.

You may be interested in your street and the nearby main road. You might live between three neighbourhoods and have an interest in all three. If you work somewhere else, you might have an interest in that area too.

And what if you live in a block of flats? Surely you're interested in what goes on there too!

It seems wrong to have to choose a single place. What's the answer?

Our solution: tell us ALL your favourite places!
Types of place

Areyoulocal.co.uk has three types of place:

We have a comprehensive database of all the streets, neighbourhoods and blocks of flats in the entire country*.

Exploring your favourite places

After you've registered, you can tell us your favourite places, and these are bookmarked in the sidebar so that you can easily switch between them.

You use the menus to explore the current place shown in the title bar.

You can change the current place simply by clicking on one of the bookmarks in the 'My Places' list.

Each place has a dedicated discussion forum, articles and newsletters, and you can look for groups to join, things to buy and sell, people to meet, weblogs to read and local shops and services...all near to the current place.

When you switch places, the website will try to 'stay in context'. What does that mean? Here's an example:

If you were reading Wimbledon's newsletters, and you switch to Putney, the website will show Putney's newsletters.
